Nigella Lawson @ Late Show with David Letterman

Blogged in Nigella Lawson, Late Night Talkshows by Michael Saturday July 28, 2007

It’s weekend again and as I promised last week I will be posting a clip from a late night talkshow with a celebrity chef in it. I’m working my way through the older clips first and then I’ll be getting to the newer ones. So this week I have another clip from Late Show with David Letterman. Nigella Lawson was the guest cook that evening, and even though Letterman always acts like an idiot, this was still worth posting.

Gordon Ramsay interview on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

Blogged in Late Night Talkshows, Gordon Ramsay by Michael Tuesday July 24, 2007

I have this great interview with Gordon Ramsay I wanted to share with you. This will be exclusive to foodtvblog which means it won’t be featured on youtube. In this 25 minute feature, Ramsay talks about opening his restaurant in New York, he shares some funny anecdotes, tells us a little more about Kitchen Nightmares USA, and gives us a little too much information on a bollocks rash he once had. Ross asks Ramsay if he can make a ketchup that is as good as store-bought, and as a finishing touch for this interview Ross cooks up an exotic dish with bark, leaves, and maggots.

It took me a great deal of work to get this onto the website for you, so if you like it please leave a comment!

Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA: first airdate!

Blogged in Gordon Ramsay by Michael Tuesday July 24, 2007

Update: airdate has changed

Fox has announced the premiere of Kitchen Nightmares USA, a new reality series that will follow sharp-tongued British Hell’s Kitchen chef Gordon Ramsay as he travels across America and helps restaurants in crisis.

Kitchen Nightmares, which Fox previously announced would air as part of the network’s Fall 2007 primetime programming line-up, will debut Thursday, September 13 at 9PM ET/PT.

Each one-hour Kitchen Nightmares episode will see Ramsay visit a different struggling American food establishment. After arriving at the restaurant in crisis, Ramsay will motivate the owners and bully the kitchen’s brigade in an attempt to reverse the fortunes of each struggling restaurant in just one week. Whether he’ll save them from their current nightmare or just create a new one will depend on how the establishment’s lazy cooks and moody wait staff respond.

Kitchen Nightmares, which was first announced in January and is an American adaptation of the Hell’s Kitchen star’s British Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares reality series, has already garnered some attention for its format.

Last month, Martin Hyde, the former general manager of Dillons Indian restaurant in Manhattan’s theater district, filed a lawsuit requesting a judge block the broadcast of the episode he appears in due to the negative image Kitchen Nightmares depicts both he and the eatery in. Hyde apparently loses his job in the episode at Ramsay’s request.

Cooking with blood

Blogged in Janet Street-Porter, Mini-docu by Michael Saturday July 21, 2007

I know, it sounds repulsive. But as so much blood is being wasted from the animals we slaughter, why not use it to eat ? At least, that’s what Janet Street-Porter tries to tell us. It’s pretty sickening, and I warn you for some mildly EXPLICIT FOOTAGE FROM THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE.

An ethical alternative to foie gras

Blogged in Janet Street-Porter, Mini-docu by Michael Saturday July 21, 2007

Most people that have a problem with foie gras, have a problem with the way the French force-feed their goose. There is good news though. What’s really pissed the French off, is that Spanish producers of foie gras have won the prestigious medal for innovation at the Paris international food salon for their product, an ethical version of foie gras. It’s supposed to have all the yummy goodness, without the force-feeding cruelness. According to Gordon Ramsay, there is still a big difference in taste, and he will continue to use ‘real’ foie gras in his restaurants instead of the ethical foie gras made by Patería de Sousa. Judge for yourself.

WARNING: THERE IS SOME EXPLICIT FOOTAGE OF FORCE-FEEDING AND BUTCHERING

Horse meat, why not give it a try?

Over here in Belgium, horse meat is a pretty common thing. You can buy it in the form of steak, but it’s most commonly sold in the form of very thin smoked slices of horse meat, and you usually eat it on bread. Apparently, it’s still a taboo food in most English-speaking countries such as the UK, the US and Australia. Janet Street-Porter serves up a portion to the British.

This video might offend you, it might shock you, but don’t judge it until you’ve tried it or at least until after you’ve watched this video.

What to write about Ramsay on a slow news day?

Blogged in Gordon Ramsay by Michael Monday July 16, 2007

What to write about Gordon Ramsay on a slow news day? - that’s what some reporter must’ve thought. The story goes as follows: On Gordon’s Channel 4 show The F Word Ramsay went spear fishing for sea bass. The “big” news is that Ramsay said “I feel like a fucking action man… I have got three stunning sea bass. I have never caught a fish from a spear and it’s not bad for first time out.” , while not actually having caught the fish himself. So now the “reporter” is claiming Ramsay faked it.

I’ve got a few things to say about that:

  1. it must’ve been a damn slow news day if that’s your big news
  2. who cares if he faked catching a fish?
  3. clearly this article was written by a Ramsay-hater, judging from the style of the article and the disgust over multiple parts of The F Word, including the promotion of horse meat

I usually include my sources when it concerns news articles, but this is so lame it doesn’t deserve a link. If you really want to read the news article, google is a good place to start.

Eating veal isn’t inhumane…

Blogged in Janet Street-Porter, Mini-docu by Michael Sunday July 15, 2007

Reporter Janet Street-Porter tries to convince the British to eat more veal, and shows us that it isn’t *that* inhumane to do so.
