Kitchen Nightmares renewed, Hell’s Kitchen in production

Posted by Michael on Friday, October 19th, 2007

After only 4 episodes, FOX decided Kitchen Nightmares USA was solid enough to renew for a second season. Another 10 episodes of the dumbed-down version of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares will be produced for broadcast in 2008. With over 6 million viewers every week, the show has turned out to be a big success.

I must say, while I find this good news, I’d rather have the UK version renewed for more episodes. Because let’s face it, it’s like comparing a mediocre bottle of wine with a Chateau Latour.

Meanwhile, while you are sitting at home enjoying the Nightmares, the next season of Hell’s Kitchen USA went in production. While that’s also a nice show to watch, I’d still rather see Ramsay do the cooking himself in a show like The F-Word.

Honestly, I think what attracted Ramsay to our American public is the fact that he was one of the first of the Brits to be brutally honest in a way that was unheard of—you have Simon Cowell, Gordon Ramsay and that Piers fella on “So you think you can dance”

However, I watched Kitchen Nightmares UK simply because I developed an appreciation for Ramsay after watching him on Hell’s Kitchen US. I think Hell’s Kitchen done here is perfect, but I think that a show like Kitchen Nightmares serves its purpose much better in the format that channel 4 in the UK used. I don’t need the voice-overs, the constant recuts, editing, ridiculous music and over-production. I want what we all want…Gordon Ramsay helping business owners that are failing. FOX can keep all the rest.

If you love Kitchen Nightmares US, you will absolutely ADORE Kitchen Nightmares UK.

According to http://www.channel4.com/ramsay a new season of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares will premiere on Channel 4 tomorrow.

Thank you very much for that info Jón Sigurðrud

I like the US version of Kitchen Nightmares. In fact, I like it BETTER than the UK version. I think it helps if you don;t think of the two as the same show.
I would agree the F-word is the best of all his shows, however.

I just found your blog, and really LOVE it!!! Being a HUGE fan of the Chef Ramsay (GOD Bless BBC America:)and Kitchen Nightmares UK version, I was very excited when it started here in the states. (If only we can get “The F Word” over here now:) I do have to agree about the comparison though. The US version is almost too dumbed down, and full of people who want exposure, not help with their restaurants (i.e. the Sebastians episode), but since becoming a chef I can’t stop watching and/or learning from Chef Ramsay so anywhere he’s on tv,I’ll take it.

The UK version is 10 times better. Much higher quality, without all of the artificial drama, annoying music, and mini–interviews. Plus, there’s about twice as much content, much more related to food. The Fox version is still worth watching, but it’s painful to know how good the show could be compared to how poorly it actually is.

  7. Cool Says:

Nah, the US version is better. Mini-interviews, annoying music and artificial drama are some of those major characteristics of it. Moreover, I think Gordon Ramsay is simply a better representative of hell’s chef.
Well…as for the kitchen’s nightmare, UK version is definitely a better choice…anyways…
