Extremists threaten celebrity chefs

Blogged in Rick Stein, Jamie Oliver by Michael Tuesday June 19, 2007

Threats by an extremist group against celebrity chefs Rick Stein and Jamie Oliver are being investigated by police.

Stein has extensive business interests in the north Cornwall port of Padstow, including a restaurant, hotel and fish and chip shop.

Oliver has set up one of his charitable Fifteen restaurants at Watergate Bay, also on the north Cornwall coast, training disadvantaged young people from the county.

The Cornish National Liberation Army (CNLA) said in an email received by the Plymouth-based Western Morning News newspaper that local people had approached their activists “for assistance” against Stein - described as “this English newcomer”.

The email said it was “common knowledge” that Stein and his businesses were “held in contempt” by Cornish nationals who live in the Padstow area.

And “his vehicle and those of his clients and customers are also bona fide targets for our activists”.

The CNLA described Oliver as “another incomer who has caused the inflation of house and other living costs at Cornish expense”.

His clients and customers are also targets of the CNLA, said the email.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they take “very seriously any threats to commit criminal offences against individual, business, public service or the Crown and we will vigorously investigate any pre-meditated or publicised planned criminal activity”.

The spokesman said: “We have made immediate contact with proprietors of various businesses and are actively working together, with a view to ensure that appropriate crime prevention measures are maintained.”

Jamie At Home - Summer Brassicas

Blogged in Video Recipes, Jamie Oliver by Michael Tuesday June 12, 2007

I’m not a big fan of broccoli and cauliflowers, but Jamie comes up with this incredible canneloni which I have to give a try sometime. Even the fritters look delicious. Check it out and tell me what you think by leaving a comment!

From the garden Jamie picks some incredible lime green and purple cauliflowers and uses them to make curried fritters with a brilliantly simple batter. Cauliflower and broccoli are used for a simple, hearty cannelloni and Jamie cooks ham and spring greens with mustard and celery leaves.

Jamie At Home - Strawberries

Blogged in Video Recipes, Jamie Oliver by Michael Thursday June 7, 2007

Strawberries is what the 4th episode of Jamie at Home is all about. As always, some yummy ideas for a salad, and a few other dishes.

Jamie’s garden is bursting with strawberries from hanging baskets, a great way to grow them, and he picks them in situ to make a strawberry salad with speck and halloumi. Not only are they good fresh, Jamie shows us more inventive ways with the traditional strawberry - his take on a classic is grilled strawberries with Pimms. Whilst there are a glut of strawberries in season Jamie shows us how to make the most of them by making a really simple, delicious strawberry jam which he serves hot with a creamy rice pudding.

Jamie At Home - Onions

Blogged in Video Recipes, Jamie Oliver by Michael Monday June 4, 2007

Onions, I guess you love em or you don’t. In the third episode of Jamie at Home, he creates 3 dishes with onions, and I have to say that the oven baked potatoes and onions with balsamic vinegar looked delicious, I have to try that soon! Again I wasn’t impressed with every single dish, but that’s not going to stop me from posting it for you…

Jamie pulls up some of his first onions of the year and makes a crisp and fresh cheese and onion salad. The red onions he uses in an onion and potato al forno with tender roast pork. Jamie makes a sensational English onion and leek soup with cheddar cheese.

Jamie At Home - Peas and Broad Beans

Blogged in Video Recipes, Jamie Oliver by Michael Sunday June 3, 2007

The second episode of Jamie at Home was about Peas and Broad Beans. I wasn’t really enthousiastic when I read the title, or when I watched the episode, but if you have peas or broad beans growing in your garden I guess he gives you a few doable ideas.

In this show Jamie makes three inspired recipes using the freshest peas and broad beans picked straight from the garden. Jamie extols their raw qualities in a beautiful pea and broad bean ’posh beans on toast’, their vivid colour in spiced broad bean fritters, and uses peas as a finishing touch to a spaghetti and meatball dish.
